Top award for Arbroath garage

An Arbroath garage is going from strength to strength and looking at further expansion after winning a coveted industry award.

The Checkpoint Garage received an outstanding score in their first Service Quality Audit for Bosch Car Services, coming out ahead of 500 other top UK garages.

In January 2015 Checkpoint moved from the Kirkton Industrial Estate into new and bigger premises in the former Pringle Building on the Elliot Industrial Estate.

Bosch approached owner Calum Gordon with the offer of becoming a Bosch specialist, a much sought after industry gold standard which puts a strong emphasis on customer service and technical ability.

Calum explained: “The whole Bosch Car Service concept is all about customer care and doing the job right.

“They are the top of the top for car garages and there are over 500 Bosch car services in the UK.”

Scooping the award proves Calum and his team are doing the right things, but, as a self-confessed perfectionist, he believes that there is still more to be done, including possibly expanding their workforce.

He said: “I put them off coming to do the audit for a long time because the garage wasn’t finished and we are still in the process of adding services, but we won that despite not having ready everything we want to do.

“To get that from Bosch is quite a big thing, everything has to be right for them, they don’t take things lightly.

“A lot of that is down to the team, definitely, especially our office manager Christine Walker, who put in a lot of hard work in preparation for the audit.

“The whole team are really pleased with the award.

‘‘To win out of 500 of the best garages in the UK is quite an achievement, especially when I’m not happy with the place yet, there’s more to do.

“We’ve added another three members of staff since we moved and we’re hoping to improve that even more next year.”

Among these developments at the independent garage is the recent acquisition of a franchise for practical car and van rental, a soon-to-be-completed MOT bay, a hefty investment in state-of-the-art wheel alignment equipment and computer diagnostics.

Calum added: “According to our suppliers there’s nowhere between Dundee and Aberdeen with the same level of equipment and experience.”
