ARBROATH’S ‘ToonFest’, so called simply because it is held ‘in the toon’, is back for a second year.

The one day music and drinks festival organised by Arbroath Round Table where all the monies raised get given back to the community is to be held this year on Saturday, May 18, in the Sports and Community Centre, Marketgate.

Round Table spokesperson Jamie Buchan explained: “Our inaugural event last year was great. A lot of hard work by the lads and a lot of fun had by the visitors raised a total of £5,800 which has since been given out to local good causes and groups.

“Our philosophy with ToonFest is to celebrate the best of Arbroath and give it an international twist.”

He continued: “Last year’s event was the first international lager festival in the town with 10 world lagers available as well as four ‘house’ lagers also with an international flavour.

“This year we have listened to the feedback of our visitors to ToonFest 2012 and are delighted to bring some real ale into the festival. ToonFest 2013 will have eight world lagers and three Scottish ales alongside our regular bar of spirits, etc.”

Providing the entertainment at next month’s event will be up and coming Arbroath singer/songwriter Yasmin Worrall, amazing Arbroath duo The Bygones and headlining the event is arguably Scotland’s best soul and blues group, Arbroath’s very own The Declaration Band.

If that line up isn’t ‘magic’ enough, table magician Michael Brandie will be amazing visitors with some “how did he do that?” moments.

There are two sessions for ToonFest. The day session is the international beer festival which runs from 1 to 5.30 p.m. at a cost of £5 per ticket.

The evening party is from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at a cost of £10 per ticket. Last year’s party night completely sold out well in advance of the night so you are encouraged to get your tickets soon to not miss out on this great community event.

You can get tickets from Specsavers in Arbroath, at the Abbeygate Centre; Carpet Disco, Millgate; Christies Fine Art, Lordburn; or online from www.arbroathtoonfest.co.uk.
