Toni-Louise Grant had 12 inches of her hair chopped off by Ashleigh Mellon, Fin and Co and raised over 400 for the Little Princess Trust.

A 13-year-old Carnoustie High School pupil, Toni-Louise Grant, has had her flowing locks lopped in aid

of charity.

Toni-Louise, who has always worn her hair long, will donate both money and hair to the Little Princess Trust, which supports children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Proud mum Amanda told the Gazette: “Toni-Louise has always had long hair and when she saw the charity advertising, she decided she wanted a change for both herself and others.

“She had 12.5 inches cut off which will be sent along with the money to the trust to make the wigs.”

Both the money and the hair will be donated to The Little Princess Trust.

Making such a drastic change to her appearance was no small thing for the teenager, as mum Amanda explained: “She was fine to begin with but she started getting more nervous the nearer the date came - it was the first full haircut she has ever had.”

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs to children, across the UK and Ireland, who sadly have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers and receives no formal funding.

Amanda continued: “Toni-Louise always wants to try and help as many people as possible, but when she realised it was for children she became more focused in raising awareness of the charity.”

The results of that focus were some inventive ways to raise extra money.

Tickets, costing 50 pence each, could be bought at the high school, to guess either the total number of chocolate eclairs in a sweet jar, or what the weight would be of Toni-Louise’s chopped-off locks.

One winner received the jar of sweets, while the closest guesser to the weight of the hair received a hair pamper hamper.

These ideas made a hair-raising total of £511.86.

Toni-Louise said: “I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me during my efforts to raise funds for such a great charity.”
