An Arbroath slimming group may be shedding the pounds from their bodies but have been collecting the cash for two cancer charities.
The Slimming World Group, which meets in the Green Street Hall on Wednesdays have held a sponsored slimathon and clothes throw both for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK.
And last week, consultant Dawn Gordon presented a cheque for £437 to Dorothy Watt of Macmillan Cancer Support as well as collecting the bags of clothes the members had collected.
Dorothy herself is also a diamond target member of the Arbroath Slimming World group as she has maintained her target weight for over a year.
The slimathon began in April as part of Slimming World’s Slim for Good campaign.
Arbroath members were sponsored by family and friends to lose weight and in return raise cash for Macmillan.
Dawn said: “During the six week slimathon the members of the group lost an amazing 648 pounds and nine members reached their personal target weights, a fantastic achievement.
“The sponsorship money along with donations made during the year came to a total of £473 and the cheque was handed over at a recent presentation.”
Meanwhile members also took part in the ‘Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’ and were asked to spring cleaning their wardrobes and donated clothes that no longer fit their new figures to their local Cancer Research UK shop.
Dawn added: “At the Arbroath group, members were delighted to get behind the cause and jumped at the chance to recycle their old tops, dresses, trousers, skirts and more.
“A total of 31 bags were donated, with each bag potentially raising up to £25 each.”
The Arbroath group meets on Wednesdays in the Green Street Hall at 5.30 and 7.30 p.m.
