Sweet dreams for Brooke

AN ARBROATH grandmother has gone above and beyond to raise money to help a young girl walk.

May Smith has already baked over a thousand bars of tablet, and is planning to bake more to raise funds for Brooke Ramsay (7) from Carnoustie, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

May started baking tablet for Brooke’s Dream in October and in December presented the family with a cheque for £1,000.

May’s tablet has been distributed to shops throughout Arbroath, he said: “I’m very grateful to all the local businesses who helped. Mark at the Lochlands Bar, Ashley from Goodfella’s, Linda at Armstrong Packaging, Ray from Northern Tool and Gear, Tracy at Sun Studio, Angela from the CAFE Project and Aqua-Detox. It was really good of them to help.”

Brooke’s mother, Laura, is delighted with the runaway success of the tablet sales, she said: “All the businesses are taking part again, I think she’s managed to raise another £300 so far.”

According to Laura the tablet sells like the proverbial hotcake: “My dad usually orders 50 bars and takes them into work and they’re gone within seconds. It’s unbelievable.”

On Sunday Brooke was invited to the Old and Abbey Church Sunday School where she was presented with a cheque for £200.

Laura said: “We didn’t know about that one at all, that was just fantastic.”

The fund for Brooke’s Dream continues to grow, and on Wednesday, February 22 The Kinloch Arms Hotel will be hosting a prize bingo evening from 7.30 p.m.

Laura said: “We’re doing very well and we still have quite a bit of money to come in.”
