ARBROATH businessman Alexander (Alex) Addison, who owned Addison Garage, Montrose Road, received a surprise retirement party at his local pub, The Portcullis, on Saturday evening.

His daughter, Kay Lafferty, had organised the event which was a huge success. Kay sent out invitations to relatives who travelled from far afield and also contacted former employees who were happy to attend, some of whom Alex had not seen for over 30 years.

Pinned on the wall of the venue were photographs of Alex and the garage from yesteryear which brought back many happy memories.

Alex is an avid Arbroath FC supporter and plans to enjoy his retirement following his favourite team. His cake featured a portrait of him wearing a Maroons’ top. Entertainment was provided by the Jivin’ Jim Discotheque. The party was a great surprise to Alex, who thought he was having a quite drink with his wife, Maureen, and daughter Kay.
