St Thomas pupils use real maths

THE CLASS seven pupils from St Thomas Primary have been enjoying the benefits of ‘real maths’ thanks to the Factory Skatepark in Dundee.

The visit demonstrated how maths is used in everyday life as pupils used their knowledge to work out angles, measurements, scales, time, speed and distance.

Class teacher Mrs Fenton explained the pupils enjoyed their visit and were given a new learning experience.

She said: “Working within the Curriculum for Excellence allows a greater degree of flexibility and an imaginative combination of several learning experiences; this helps children link the relevance of the skills they are learning.

“Taking the learning outwith the immediate school environment, highlights a potential usefulness of these skills in the children’s futures.

“An obvious bonus, is of course, that it is active fun. Learning is most successful when we are happy and healthy.”
