Specsavers’ eye on golf

The Angus branches of a national opticians have announced they are to sponsor a ladies’ golf championship in Carnoustie next week.

The Specsavers stores in Arbroath, Forfar, Montrose and Dundee are providing sponsorship for the Scottish Ladies’ Open Tour Championship which is taking place on Wednesday (July 3).

Katy McNicoll, a professional golfer from Carnoustie with a handicap of +1, and fellow professional Heather Macrae, helped to launch the partnership by taking an eye test to prove they were in peak condition.

Katy said: “It was a pleasure to help Specsavers announce the sponsorship. The Scottish tour is such an important competition as it allows female golfers to improve and take our game to the next level.

“It’s fantastic that Specsavers is supporting the Carnoustie event this year and I am looking forward to playing in my home town.”

Jamie Buchan, store director at Specsavers in Arbroath, said: “We are very proud to be the official sponsor of the Carnoustie event of The Scottish Ladies’ Open Tour Championship.

“The tour allows golfers the opportunity to experience an exciting and exhilarating competition, playing with some of the best in the country.

“At Specsavers, we are passionate about supporting the community in which we serve. This competition is not only a great opportunity for the players but the surrounding area will also benefit from tourism the event creates.

“We were thrilled that Katy and Heather helped to officially launch this special partnership, and we look forward to this exciting golf competition in Carnoustie in July.”

The Scottish Ladies’ Open Tour Championship visits venues across the country and aims to act as a stepping stone to the main ladies’ European Tour.

It is open to all female golf professionals and amateurs with a single-figure handicap.

Nicola Melville, organiser of the Scottish Ladies’ Open Tour Championship, said: “The aim of the tour is to help aspiring female golfers in Scotland, so it’s great to have Specsavers sponsoring one of our events and we would like to say thank you for the support.”
