TWO ARBROATH councillors have warmly welcomed provision of the funding to construct a slipway in Arbroath for leisure boat users.
The report outlining the funding of £124,000 was passed at a meeting of the council’s strategic policy committee on Tuesday.
Councillor Jim Millar, who chairs the Arbroath Harbour Joint Consultative Committee, said: “For all the bluff and bluster we have heard on this issue from people claiming that a slipway was going to be built, it never appeared in any past capital plan for the council. We have conducted a full consultation on the slipway proposal, and I am delighted that detailed design and relevant applications can go ahead. I would like to congratulate Councillor David Fairweather on working so hard to secure the necessary funding for what I believe will be a real boost to Arbroath.”
Councillor Fairweather commented: “This is great news for the town and has been well worth the hard work that has gone into putting this together. There has been a lot of smoke and mirrors on this issue, but ultimately we are delivering what we set out to do, which is to provide a slipway for small boat users.”
