Tomorrow (Saturday) years of hard-work, lobbying and fund-raising will pay off and the Arbroath skatepark will officially open to the public.
It is the culmination of a concerted four year campaign, and many more years of attempts, to build a skating and BMXing facility for the town’s young people.
Chair of the Arbroath Skatepark Project Club said: “Well, we did it!! I think if I knew all those years ago how much this project would take over my life, I would have run for the hills. But I’m extremely glad I didn’t.
“The completion of the Skatepark brings a wonderful feeling of accomplishment and I’m very proud to have played the part I have in a community project which will no doubt prove to be a fantastic asset to the area.
“But what has touched me greatly is how much support we have had from the local community throughout. Many people have been involved with this project and each and everyone should be very proud of their achievements.”
Jillian continued: “I am quite overwhelmed by the amazing feedback I have been getting both from the users themselves and the general public of all ages. A lot of people I have spoken to feel that the skatepark will provide a much needed facility for the teenagers and young adults of Arbroath and the surrounding area.
“The comments about the park’s design and build quality have been so positive too. It seems the whole skating and BMXing community are super excited about the opening, and are itching to get on the park.
“I know that people are coming from other towns too for the opening day, some as far afield as Oban!”
