SHOCK CLOSURE OF LAUNDRY SHOP

employees of a unit at the Elliot Industrial Estate were left stunned after turning up to work on Tuesday morning to find the business had closed.

Workers of the Laundry Shop on Peasiehill Road claim they were already due wages after they were late in receiving pay this month.

And when they arrived at the unit on Tuesday morning to start work, they were shocked to find all of the laundry equipment had been taken and it seemed they were left without jobs.

The staff also claimed computers were also taken, leaving the unit bare.

It is believed around 17 staff are affected by the sudden closure, and they are all due wages.

And now some of the affected staff, who spoke to the Herald on Tuesday were worried about how they were going to pay bills and keep food on the table without the money due to them and job uncertainty.

One worker said she had already been made homeless after late wages meant she wasn’t able to keep up with payments for her accommodation.

Another said he feared he too was going to lose his home as without cash and a job, he wouldn’t be able to pay for it.

Calls to the Laundry Shop were unanswered.

Tayside Police were called to the premises at the Elliot Industrial Estate on Tuesday morning. A spokeswoman said: “Tayside Police are aware of the situation and enquiries are at an early stage.”
