Angus College staff have been learning how to support and educate young people about sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies.
Staff at Angus College, Dundee College and The Web Project have been working with NHS sexual health promotion specialist Richard McIntosh on what can be a sensitive topic.
Richard said: “It can clearly be a delicate and sensitive subject, but my aim is to train students to offer practical and emotional advice in the most sensitive way possible.
“The C-Card is a plastic card which allows the owner to collect free condoms and other safer sex products in the C-Card range but it also reinforces the need to respect yourself and others.”
Liz Martin, a student key worker, added: “We spend a lot of time with these students and it helps enormously for us to have a training framework to work to when we’re presented with a difficult situation.
Training will be rolled out this year and free contraception will be made available to young people signed up to the scheme.
NHS mobile app ‘Need Tay Know’ promoting safe sexual health is another scheme that will be promoted, as is ‘Cool 2 Talk’ a confidential helpline.
