Search for Scotland’s best potato dish

AS AN area known for potato farming a website dedicated to the diet staple is looking to Angus in a search to find Scotland’s best potato dish.

Celebrity chef James Martin and website are searching for the best potato recipe.

Scotland’s winning dish will go head-to-head with 12 other regional finalists to win a luxury family holiday and land the creator an exclusive role as the home economist on’s 2013 national TV ad shoot.

If you’ve got a simple potato family favourite which never fails to go down a storm at the dinner table, all you need to do is upload your recipe and an image of your dish to

The only criteria is that recipes feature ingredients easily found in everyday kitchen cupboards, are healthy and can be ready from prep to plate in 30 minutes or less.

Once uploaded, dishes will be categorised in line with a new classification system; a simple guide which groups the most common potato varieties together in three, easy-to-understand classifications – fluffy, salad and smooth, before one winner is selected from Scotland to join 12 other short-listers from across the UK.

Saturday Kitchen chef James said: “Potatoes are such an important part of British life they’re healthy, delicious and extremely quick and easy to cook.

“This competition not only offers budding chefs up and down the country the chance to show off their culinary skills to the nation, it will also hopefully inspire more people to cook with potatoes.

“I bet there are hundreds of people in Scotland with their very own potato recipe and I for one can’t wait to taste them.”
