AN ARBROATH couple has made it to the Scottish finals of a competition for inspirational slimmers.
Roy and Eileen English have progressed to the final round of the Scottish Slimmers’ ‘Slimmer of the Year 2012’ competition after losing nearly seven stones between them.
Hundreds of slimming Scots entered the competition and Roy and Eileen were among the 25 women, eight men and three families making it to the finals to be held in the Crown Plaza Hotel, Glasgow, on October 7.
Roy (64) used to weigh 22 stone but was motivated to shed three stone and four inches from his waistline after weighing himself one day.
He said: “I frightened myself. I had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, was on medication and realised I wasn’t helping myself with my weight.
“We want to enjoy our retirement and now that we have lost weight we can. As far as we are concerned life is just getting better every week!”
Eileen (64) gained weight after retiring, but with the help of Scottish Slimmers she has managed to lose 3st 9lbs and six dress sizes.
She said: “We used to get short of breath when we went out for a walk. Now it’s our favourite pastime and I have even become a volunteer walk leader with ‘Steps Tay Health’ in Arbroath.”
