Round Table news

AT LAST week’s business meeting of Arbroath Round Table at Gayfield, Tablers were given a visual presentation from Becky and Naomi Dumphy and Jack Newth of the St Andrew’s Church Malawi 11 group.

Tablers presented a cheque for £500 last June to help with the cost to fly 11 youths out to Malawi for a four-week stay during July of last year.

The Tablers were impressed by the effort, commitment and long term nature of the projects being undertaken and considered by the group for the next trip planned for 2013.

A vote of thank was given by Ian Lorimer, chairman.

A number of donations were approved: £150 to Kym Anderson, Carnoustie, to help fund an eight-month charity stay in India; £100 to Arbroath Academy Rock Challenge 2012; and £150 to Angus Special Playscheme based in Arbroath.

On Sunday Tablers along with partners and children visited Help for Abandoned Animals at Kinaldie to find out how a £350 donation made last year had been used. Members learned that it had helped to create a fenced in exercise area for the dogs. Ian Robb and his volunteers gave up some of their valuable time to show the party around and explain their daily routines.
