ARBROATH Round Table were represented at the recent Round Table World Meeting in India.
Jamie Buchan and Bob Dickson of the Table were the two Scottish delegates at the recent meeting which was held in Hyderabad.
Whilst there, on behalf of the Arbroath organisation, Jamie and Bob donated 4000 Rupees (£50) towards the Freedom Through Education campaign to build classrooms and train teachers.
The India world meeting was well attended with nearly 500 delegates from 40 countries.
Meanwhile fellow member Brian Cargill also returned from America last week.
Brian spent part of his honeymoon meeting friends made at a world conference back in 2005 and the Active 20-30 club of Eugene, Oregon has long been friend to Arbroath with regular communication and exchanges between the clubs.
Whilst in Eugene, Brian, on behalf of Arbroath Round Table donated $150 (£100) to their Coats for Children charity which buys warm coats for underprivileged children.
Whilst in America and in acknowledgement of the friendship and bonds between the clubs and Brian in particular, he was given the rare honour of being inducted as an honorary member, only the third non-American to be given such membership.
At last week’s meeting, it was also agreed to donate 10 compasses each to Arbroath High School and Academy to assist the students with the Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Just over £500 was donated to the Scout Association to purchase tents so local scouts can continue to go camping and £250 to the Sea Cadets to assist with their cadet training programme.
