Arbroath Round Table said farewell to two long standing members last week, who have a combined 23 years of membership between them.

At a ceremony at the Table meeting, Bob Stewart and Brian Cargill were thanked for their service to the community over the years.

Brian, who has been a Tabler for over 13 years, was presented with an engraved Round Table tankard to celebrate his time from chairman Jamie Buchan, who Brian had introduced as a Tabler two years ago.

Bob, with 10 years’ membership, was presented with the same gift from Malcolm Scott who he had introduced to the organisation.

Speaking to the meeting after receiving his tankard, Brian said: “Table has given me some of my greatest memories and it has been a big part of my life.

“To the new lads in the room, joining Table is something you will never regret.”

Three years ago, Arbroath Round Table was in danger of closing due to lack of members but Bob and Brian were part of the backbone that has seen a resurrection of Arbroath Table, who have organised memorable events such as Barnfest and Toonfest.

And the membership is now growing, with 19-year-old Jordan Adair joining the organisation this week.

Jordan was inducted by Jamie after being introduced by member Kirk Taylor in June.

He said: “I was speaking to Kirk and he said he’d had a great time with the Tablers and that I should come along, so I did.

“Helping out with Ladies’ Night was so much fun and we raised good money for Cancer Research. I knew then that I wanted to join and I enjoy having a meal with the guys every couple of weeks at the meetings and I’m looking forward to our next project.”
