An Arbroath takeaway is all aglow after chipping in with funding for the town’s annual fireworks display.

On Tuesday the Round O chip shop signed off on a deal to sponsor the purchase of £550 of glow sticks for the Fireworks for Arbroath 2016 to sell at the display and generate revenue for next year.

They also agreed to sponsor a banner advertising the fireworks display which will be on show in the run up to Bonfire Night.

The Round O has been in the Atkinson family since 1925 and they have a long history of supporting community events and causes.

Lindsay Atkinson, owner of the Round O, said: “We are proud to be sponsoring such a fantastic community event. Without Karren and the fireworks team there would be no firework event in Arbroath.

“We feel that the fireworks are an important event in a community’s calendar and the event will create memories for families and their children.”

Karren Cuthill, chair of the Fireworks for Arbroath 2016, said: “Lindsay and I were speaking on Facebook discussing this year’s events when she offered to have the Round O sponsor us. We’re very grateful for their offer of help.”

The Round O have also offered meal vouchers for raffle prizes and according to Karren, donations for this have been great.

She said: “Last year people didn’t really know us, but still donated, but now they do know us and they are giving us twice as much in raffle prizes!”
