A LONG-SERVING member of the Department for Work and Pensions staff in Arbroath, Mr John Christison, recently retired after completing 43 years’ service.

He was guest of honour at a farewell party attended by friends and colleagues in Ogston’s Hotel on Friday evening.

Mr Christison, perhaps better known as chairman of Arbroath Football Club, joined the staff of the Ministry of Labour office in Gellatly Street, Dundee, in August, 1968, as a clerical officer.

In the intervening period he has also worked in Perth and Aberdeen but most time has been spent in the Arbroath and Dundee offices. He retired as customer services manager in the Arbroath office.

With his new found spare time he plans to take up golf, and has bought himself a set of clubs. He is a member of Arbroath Bowling Club.

He was presented with gifts on behalf of his colleagues by Ann Watt.
