AN ARBROATH retained firefighter was honoured at his retiral this week for his long service.

Ian McWatt (43) retired from the retained service after 18 years at Arbroath Tayside Fire and Rescue Service on Monday.

He has left the service due to work commitments as head of operations for the Food Standards Agency for Scotland and to spend more time with his family.

His watch manager, Ian Kemp, presented him with a bronze statue in honour of his long service which was entitled ‘Saved’ and depicted a fireman carrying a child.
