“Rollermania” comes to Dundee Rep Theatre on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 when 1970s pop sensation Les McKeown performs ‘The Bay City Rollers Story’.

This is a celebration of those hectic days of hit songs, touring, TV shows and behind the scenes pandemonium that followed the band everywhere they went.

The popularity of the tartan-clad heartthrobs in the 70s has been compared to the Spice Girls in the 90s and currently One Direction.

The music of the Bay City Rollers became the soundtrack for a generation of teenagers growing up in the mid 70s. Massive hits such as ‘Bye Bye Baby’, ‘Shang-A-Lang’, ‘Summer Love Sensation’ and ‘Give A Little Love’ propelled the band to world-wide super stardom.

The face and voice of that soundtrack belonged to Les McKeown. Les led the way and the band’s singles and albums shot to the number one spot all over the globe.

Between 1974 and 1978 the Bay City Rollers reached number one in the pop charts not only in Britain and America but all over mainland Europe, Japan and Australia.

Current estimated worldwide album sales are at over 300 hundred million. Les left the band in 1978 and the following year released his first solo album, ‘All Washed Up’.

His new band, ‘Ego Trip’, went on to record five hugely successful albums in Japan and in the late 1980s more chart success was to follow in Germany with a new solo album entitled ‘It’s a Game’.
