A GROUP of Arbroath fund-raisers who donated over £40,000 to Cancer Research UK have been praised in the Scottish Parliament.
The Angus fund-raising committee of Cancer Research UK held their annual Relay for Life at Arbroath United Cricket Club in September.
And the event realised a massive £40,113.84, which will go towards the charity.
Angus South MSP Graeme Dey lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament last week to congratulate the committee and everybody who took part in making it a success.
Mr Dey’s motion reads: “The Parliament notes the achievements of the Arbroath Relay for Life committee whose efforts in organising the annual event helped raise £40,113.84 in 2012.
“Understands that this has been donated to fund what it sees as the life-saving work of Cancer Research UK.
“Commends everyone who took part individually or as part of a team to raise cash for this vital cause, and hopes that the 2013 event can build on this success to help boost funding for further research into a condition that, it understands, affects more than one in three people across the UK at some time.”
Chair of the organising committee of the event Alana Loudon commented that everyone involved in the relay was delighted with the recognition.
