Re-enactmen planned for Tartan Day celebration

TARTAN Week will be celebrated this year by Arbroath Abbey Timethemes today (Friday, April 6) at 13.20, by a re-enactment of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath, on the Abbey Forecourt.

The signing re-enactment has not been celebrated in this format for about four years, as the group undertook an alternative of a series of concerts and other activities in the town.

This year, the signing will be preceded by static displays in the Abbott’s House from 11 a.m., to be followed by the start of the Declaration parades at 1.20 p.m. (13.20). The ecclesiastical parade will make an entrance through the main door of the abbey, and once in place will greet Robert Bruce and his entourage of knights, barons, their wives and others, who will make an entrance from the Abbott’s House via The Arch.

On completion of the signing, the parades will re-enter the Abbey, where the static displays will be in place until about 4 p.m.

There are a number of first time participants involved this year, many of whom will be attending the Abbey Timethemes involvement at Glamis on May 20, in celebration of The Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen.
