ANGUS smokers looking to kick the habit in 2012 can look forward to help from NHS support groups.
There are smoking cessation groups all over Angus, but the closest two are in Arbroath and Carnoustie.
Classes will be held in Arbroath at the following dates and places from Monday, January 9: Abbey Health Centre, Mondays, 10.30 -11.30 a.m.; Springfield Medical Centre, Mondays, 4.30 – 5.30 p.m.; Arbroath Community Centre, Mondays, 7.30 – 8.30 p.m. and Saltire Leisure Centre, Fridays, 2 – 3 p.m.
In Carnoustie classes take place at the Parkview Primary Care Centre every Wednesday from January 4, 6 until 7 p.m.
If you want to register for a group, telephone the Tayside Smoking Helpline on 0845 600 999 6 or just come along on the day.
At more than £7 for 20 cigarettes, a pack a day habit will cost a smoker over £2,500 per year.
It is never too late to quit, and stopping now could add years to your life and improve your quality of life.
As well as the Tayside Smokeline number above you can get further information about local groups by ‘phoning the NHS Tayside Smoke Free Services in Angus on 01241 430303.
