Cuts escaped

MOVES to protect more than 10,000 Angus households were welcomed this week by the Angus South MSP Graeme Dey. He was pleased to hear the Scottish Government and COSLA had agreed to cover the £40 million cut to Council Tax Benefits proposed by Westminster for 2013/14.

Mr Dey said: “The cuts from the UK Chancellor to Council Tax Benefit, had the SNP Government and COSLA not stepped in, would have affected hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable and less well-off groups in our society.

“The measures being taken in Scotland are specifically designed to lessen the financial pain felt by those already struggling in the current economic climate, when jobs are hard to come by and household costs are shooting up.”
