HAVING good vision is a must for referees and two of Scotland’s top whistle blowers visited Gayfield on Tuesday to have their eye sight checked by the local Specsavers store.
Jamie Buchan was on hand to check the vision of top SFA referees Steve McLean and Matt Northcroft while members of the public turning up to the event had the chance to ask questions on what life as a referee is like.
There was also information available on how people can train to become match officials.
Steve revealed that the best player he has been able to officiate in a game is Messi of Barcelona, while Matt said he would love to referee a Brazil v. Scotland World Cup final.
They also told fans at the event that they can cover up to 12 kilometres while refereeing but have no official training on how to run backwards!
Jamie Buchan from Specsavers Arbroath said: “It was fantastic to let the fans meet the referees and get a real insight into what they do.”
