THE ARBROATH Guildry will be adding a new event to the town’s calendar next Friday (October 26) when it stages the inaugural Arbroath Guildry Lecture in Hospitalfield House.

And appropriately, in view of the venue, the subject of the lecture will be Patrick Allan-Fraser, the Arbroath artist and architect who remodelled Hospitalfield House into the Grade-A listed building it is today and who built up the collection of paintings and other artefacts it houses.

Recently retired director of Hospitalfield Mr William Payne will be delivering the lecture and promises “a different angle” on the man on whom he is considered to be the foremost expert.

“Our plan is that the Guildry Lecture will become an annual event and will always be about Arbroath or of direct interest to the community,” said Dean of the Guildry Ian Lamb. “Patrick Allan-Fraser is an ideal choice for our inaugural event, especially just now as 2013 will be the bicentenary of his birth.

“We‘re delighted to have Mr Payne delivering the talk as his knowledge of the man, his life and works is absolutely unrivalled.”

There are a restricted number of seats priced at £3 (£2.50 to Friends of Hospitalfield) available to the public for the lecture by telephoning 07825 872370 or e-mailing However, booking is essential.
