Passing of former Maroon

A FORMER Arbroath goalkeeper was laid to rest earlier this week.

On Tuesday James (Jim) Williamson was buried at Newbattle Cemetery in Midlothian. He had passed away on April 22 after a long illness.

Mr Williamson moved from Penicuik Athletic to Arbroath in 1965 and appeared 86 times during his four-year stint with the club.

Following his time with Arbroath Mr Williamson returned to junior football with a position at Newtowngrange Star.

A spokesperson for Arbroath Football Club said: “It is with great sadness we have heard that Jim Williamson, a former Arbroath FC goalkeeper, passed away last week following a long illness, bravely borne.

“He always spoke of Arbroath FC in the fondest terms, a place where he met with much happiness and success.

“Our thoughts are with his wife and son who live in Blantyre.”
