Fund-raising in support of the Arbroath Lifeboat has had a fantastic start to 2015 according to the president of the Arbroath Lifeboat Ladies’ Guild.
The guild have been hard at work lately and the pot for 2015 is already growing. President Barbara Cargill said: “The Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild has made a fantastic start with the two organised fund raising events since the start of the new year.
“The Tesco Collection over the weekend at the end of January brought in an amazing £626.25. We all know January is a long month and with everyone recovering from the Festive Season over indulgences to collect such a huge sum is really very encouraging. Thanks must go to the Tesco Staff who were so helpful and welcoming to the Ladies of the Guild who manned the collection point.”
No sooner had the ladies caught their breath but they were out again last Wednesday for the Sup Our Soup Lunch, whether it was Scotch Broth, Lentil or the more exotic Sweet Potato Soup the ladies in the kitchen were ‘fairly birlin’!
The 150 tickets were sold out and at one point there was standing room only with everyone enjoying the aroma of the home made soup on offer.
This was a new adventure for the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild and one that may be repeated in coming years. Between the tickets sold and the abundant raffle prizes a grand total of approximately £886.87 was collected.
With only 5 weeks into 2015 the amazing sum of £1,513.12 has been banked for the Arbroath Lifeboat Station and its crew.
Barbara added: “It never ceases to amaze us just how generous the people of Arbroath are to this essential voluntary service, they just never let us down. With the trial of the new Shannon Class Lifeboat in the diary the Guild are going all out to help support the brave members of the crew and ensure that they have the very best of safety equipment when they are called out on a shout.”
