ANGUS Association of Voluntary Organisations (AAVO), the leading agency for Angus voluntary organisations, welcomed North Angus and Mearns MSP Nigel Don to its Arbroath offices.
He was met on behalf of the AAVO management board and staff by chief officer Mai Hearne, with finance officer Susan Godsall and AAVO intern Ross Cairney also in attendance.
The visit provided Mr Don and his constituency assistant Michael-John de la Haye, with the opportunity to see the work AAVO is doing in the interests of the Angus voluntary sector.
The SNP MSP enjoyed hearing about current work including provision of funding guidance to a huge range of groups and organisations, and he commended AAVO for its role in helping to bring in this external funding during tough times of cutbacks and challenges to budgets.
Mr Don also heard about social trends affecting local communities, including financial exclusion, and the impact of social networking on how charities develop support and awareness.
He was interested to hear about AAVO plans to set up a financial capability forum of local organisations and agencies to help minimise the impact of the recession on Angus communities.
Mr Don congratulated AAVO on their work and acknowledged the importance of voluntary activity to communities throughout Angus.
