THE LATEST addition to the Westway Retail Park is set to open its doors.
The new Pets at Home store will open today (Friday) and fill the last empty unit at the retail park, which was left by the departure of the now defunct Acorn Pets.
The store will officially be opened at 10 a.m. by Arbroath West and Letham Independent Councillor David Fairweather.
Also in attendance will be a group of children from Muirfield Primary School who will be taken on a special tour of the new facilities.
They will take part in a pet care workshop with the highly-trained store team and be amongst the first to meet the new pets. Pets at Home’s mascot, Robbie the Dog, will be joining in the fun.
Following a recent competition run in the pages of the Arbroath Herald an Alaskan huskie named Alaska was chosen as a Pet Star, after owner Craig Milne won £100 of Pets at Home vouchers.
Runner-up Ruth Ward will be joining the celebrations this morning with her German shepherd border collie cross Pepsi.
Pepsi will be warmly welcomed by store manager Mo Williams, who will give the runner-up the full VIP treatment.
Mo said: “We’re really excited about Friday’s grand opening and meeting all our special guests. We look forward to being actively involved in the local pet community and hope that we’re able to support lots of local organisations in raising awareness of responsible pet care in the area.”
Representatives from the Arbroath branch of the Cat Protection League and from Angus Dog Rescue will spend time at the store during opening weekend to tell customers about their work and raise much-needed funds for their cause.
Pets at Home Arbroath will be home to a Pet Adoption Centre, where pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small animals are cared for until a new loving home can be found.
Other features will include a pet village, aquatic centre and reptile centre.
The store has created 12 jobs and will provide thousands of dedicated pet products, catering for dogs, cats, small animals, chickens, reptiles, birds and fish, as well as wildlife.
Tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. there will be a special family fun party celebrating the opening with face painting and balloon modelling, and there will also be 10 per cent off all purchases this weekend.
