THE SUMMER series of afternoon concerts in historic St Vigeans Church starts this Sunday (June 5).
Making a welcome return is Alison McDonald, soprano, this year sharing the concert with her well-known artist brother, Ray Will, baritone. Their father, Mr Harry Will, was over many years a popular entertainer with the Musical Society and the Minstrels, passing on his love and interest in singing to his family.
The programme will be based on ‘Songs from the Shows’, with Ray including a negro spiritual and the famous song from ‘Showboat’, ‘Old man river’, a reminder of his starring role in Brechin Operatic Society’s production. The inclusion of duets will give Alison and Ray an opportunity to sing together, something they have never yet achieved.
Their accompanist, Alison Hart, will include a tribute to the late Arbroath composer, Morris Pert, in performing one of his pieces for solo piano.
The hour-long concert starts at 2.30 p.m. with admission by donation at the door of the church. Refreshments are available in the hall afterwards.
