Quaintly decorated with polka dots and pastels it’s warm and welcoming. My parents, who were visiting me from Yorkshire, and I were made to feel at home when we popped in on a lunchtime.

I had a flavoursome bowl of sweet potato and red pepper soup from the specials menu, which was one of creamiest soups I’ve had despite it being dairy-free.

Mums of Montrose offers meals to suit a range of dietary needs from vegan dishes to gluten-free treats. Food can be made to order to suit your nutritional requirements.

My parents both tried the stovies - when in Rome, do as the Romans do, so my folks wanted to try traditional Scottish cuisine while in Scotland.

They said it was hearty, warm and filling, and that they would definitely be having stovies again soon.

Afterwards, my dad plumped for the light and sweet Victoria sponge, while mum and I shared a warm scone slathered with jam and clotted cream. It had the perfect crunch on the outside while remaining soft on the inside.

All of the cakes and desserts at Mums of Montrose are home-made.

If you’re looking for something special, the tearoom offers afternoon tea for £9 per person, including dainty sandwiches, a warm scone, a selection of home-made cakes and a pot of fresh tea.

If you want something extra special with a fizz and a bang, why not take along a bottle of champagne. Corkage is £3 per person.
