A trio of Arbroath sisters are clocking up the miles in preparation for the MoonWalk Scotland which takes place in Edinburgh this June.

The sisters, Jenny Lyon, Diane Craik and Lynn Valentine, are hoping to complete ‘The Full Moon’, a power-walking midnight marathon of 26.2 miles, raising funds for the fight against cancer on June 13.

Lynn explained: “Our Mum, Hilda Valentine, has terminal cancer. We are taking part in the MoonWalk to honour Mum and raise funds for a good cause. Although we can’t save Mum, we are hoping that our efforts will help others survive. We’ve named our team ‘Mum’s the Word’ in recognition of all that Mum has done for us.”

Over the years Hilda and her family have completed other challenges to raise money for cancer research.

Last year they took part in the Arbroath Relay for Life as ‘Hilda’s Hippies’ and the year before that they braved the icy waters of the North Sea in the Arbroath New Year Dook dressed as ‘Hilda’s Hawaiians’.

This year’s MoonWalk theme is ‘The Mad Hatters Midnight Tea Party’. In keeping with the Alice in Wonderland theme, the sisters are dressing as pink flamingos.

The sisters’ faithful Labradors, Poppy and Flora, are also helping their owners in the run-up to the event, acting as ‘MoonWalk Marathon Training Assistants’.
