ANGUS MP Mike Weir visited Drummietermont Farm at Letham as part of the McDonald’s open farm programme.
Mr Weir and other guests were given a demonstration of the potato growing and harvesting process on the farm, from farmer Findlay Russell and his family, as well as information on the supply chain from the farm, through McCains Potatoes in Montrose to the McDonald’s chain.
The event was also attended by Olympic swimmer Robbie Renwick, McDonalds being a major sponsor of the Olympic games.
Commenting on the event Mr Weir said that although the weather was not kind it was a very worthwhile visit.
He said: “The day certainly gave me a much greater understanding of the potato business from farm to plate.
“Potato growing has always been a very important part of the agricultural business in Angus and I was very impressed at the very modern and efficient process at Mr Findlay’s farm.”
