MP recommends helplines

THE HOME Heat Helpline and the Home Energy Scotland Helpline can be used by people who require assistance in keeping their homes warm this winter.

The Home Heat Helpline can help those who are struggling to pay their energy bills and they have trained advisors waiting to help with gaining access to discount schemes and setting up flexible payment options. They can be contacted on 0800 33 66 99

The Home Energy Helpline can assist those who do not have enough insulation in their homes. By calling 0800 512 012 people can find out about insulation and whether or not they are eligible for any Government run schemes to insulate their homes further.

Angus MP Mike Weir said: “As winter bites it is essential that we make sure we know what steps we can take to save energy.

“Both hotlines provide a fantastic service in ensuring that we get the best value for money possible for our energy needs. Extra insulation can save homes up to £175 a year according to figures provided by the Citizens Advice Scotland.

“The Scottish Government also provides funding for eligible people to get free or discounted insulation and this is where the Home Energy Scotland Helpline can assist.

“The Home Heat helpline can provide advice and guidance for those on low incomes get help with their gas and electricity bills. With these difficult times any assistance is welcome.”

Mr Weir concluded: “I encourage constituents who feel that they could benefit from these schemes to contact the relevant hotline where they can get expert advice on how to stay warm and save money this winter.”
