More local groups and bands will feature at this year’s Arbroath Sea Fest which takes place over the first weekend in August.

Members of the Sea Fest Committee, voluntary organisers of the annual celebration of Arbroath’s maritime heritage, have released more details of this year’s programme – and music comes high on the list of special attractions!

Committee member Ralph Brand explained: “Last year, we increased our musical quota so we had two stages providing live music throughout the weekend, as well as several planned - and impromptu - quayside performances, which were very much appreciated by Sea Fest’s thousands of visitors.

“This year, we’ve added even more music to the programme, which should further enhance the fabulous carnival atmosphere that always accompanies Arbroath Sea Fest, which takes place on August 3 and 4.”

With several exciting musical plans still in the pipeline, Ralph explained that more details will be announced soon regarding other musical performers at Sea Fest, including local groups and bands.

However, he confirmed that as well as Shep Woolley from Portsmouth – a great favourite with sailors - Sea Fest favourites Kimber’s Men will once again be on the bill.

“We are really looking forward to returning to Arbroath Sea Fest,” said Joe Stead of Kimber’s Men, England’s leading sea shanty group. “We will be joining a bumper bundle of excellent folk performers, such as Ron Gardner from Stonehaven, Gaye Anthony from Aberdeen and Ian Bruce from Edinburgh.”

As well as live music, the high number of family activities also makes a major contribution to Arbroath Sea Fest’s continued popularity.

“Last year for the first time we offered free face painting for children at Sea Fest,” explained Ralph. “I’m delighted to reveal that this will once again be on offer.

“In addition, we’re going to have a group of performers re-enacting ‘Hi-Di-Hi’-type scenarios throughout the Sea Fest sites at Arbroath Marina and neighbouring Beacon Green, which will be lots of fun!

“Arbroath Sea Fest’s reputation as one of the top summer events attracts thousands of visitors to the town every August. This year’s excellent programme should ensure we boost our reputation and our visitor numbers even further!”
