Arbroath Town Mission last week received a generous boost to its kitchen refurbishment project thanks to the efforts of a local solicitor.
A cheque for £1,185, with lots more in gift aid, was presented by Marjory MacDonald of Marjory MacDonald Solicitors on Friday morning.
The money was raised by the solicitor last year during Will Aid month, but it was felt more appropriate for a local good cause to benefit.
Marjory explained: “I’ve participated in Will Aid for many years and the way that it works is that we set up wills for people but rather than charge a fee I ask them to make a donation.
“I decided this year rather than do it for Will Aid, which is a national cause, I would support a local charity, so I asked people to make a donation to the Arbroath Town Mission instead.”
Arbroath Town Mission centre manager Wilma Swankie was delighted with the donation which will be put to immediate use.
She said: “It’s an absolutely wonderful donation. I was speaking to Marjory and I was asking if she would mind if we used it for the refurbishment of the commercial kitchen. It had some problems with the frost in late December.
“The whole kitchen will be completely refurbished at the cost of around £12,000 and this generous donation will go towards that. It’s amazing how gifts come in.”
Arbroath Town Mission pastor Dave Webster added: “It’s a very kind, very generous and very helpful donation from Marjory MacDonald. She has supported Arbroath Town Mission in the past with our work with both children and older people.
“We’re very grateful for all her support over the years.”
