A dedicated mum has fought adversity and been successfully chosen to try and win the crown for Arbroath at the Miss International Bombshell pageant.
Mhairilouise Newman moved to Arbroath from Stonehaven a year and a half ago after fleeing from an abusive relationship.
She called on the help of Women’s Aid and has gradually begun to build a life for herself and her daughters Millie, 3 and Pyper, four months.
After applying for the pageant Mhairilouise thought no more of it, thinking she wouldn’t get anywhere. She said: “I received a letter saying I had been put through to the grand final for Arbroath. I was overwhelmed and excited,” she said. “I would be very proud to be Miss Arbroath.
“I’m basically doing this for my children, I want them to be proud of me and I want to have goals in life.
“Taking part so far has already helped me gain self-esteem and confidence to find new friends.”
Mhairilouise has set herself some challenges such as sponsored sports events, including a sea swim. She is also getting involved with community projects such as Homestart.
“I am wanting to show other mums anything is actually possible, because it is! Just because you’re a mum it doesn’t mean life should stop. When I first moved here I was stuck but this has given me confidence to do more.”
As well as a judging panel there is a public vote for your Miss International Bombshell. Keep an eye on the Arbroath Herald for details of how to support Mhairilouise to win it for Arbroath.
