Arbroath author Jackie McLean will be signing copies of her debut crime novel ‘Toxic’ tonight (Friday) at Darlings Coffee Shop on the High Street at 6 p.m.

Toxic was previously shortlisted for the Yeovil Literary Prize in 2011. This emotional roller-coaster draws on the horrors of Bhopal and a desperate search for the lethal toxin, from the perspective of Donna Davenport and her own tumultuous personal life.

Jackie has worked as a government economist and political lobbyist and instinctively incorporates the institutional dynamics of local government into Toxic. Her writing has been longlisted for the Dundee International Book Prize.

She weaves the story of the desperate search for the lethal toxin around the competing pressures of political wrangling and the daily lives of the complex characters.

Toxic is scheduled for publication on November 20 in both paperback and ebook format.

Seonaid Francis, Director of ThunderPoint Publishing, said: “With this chilling debut novel Jackie McLean draws on the horror of the Bhopal tragedy and overlays it with terrifying realism on current day Dundee and Arbroath, leaving the reader convinced this could happen in today’s globalised free-market economy.”
