A RICH programme of masterclasses at Hospitalfield is drawing interest from all over the country with scores of subscribers already signed up to classes ranging from portrait painting and photography to landscape design, poetry and printmaking.
The programme is also building on Hospitalfield’s reputation in the jazz world by introducing first class tuition in jazz guitar, jazz voice and blues guitar.
Hospitalfield is home to scores of portraits many dating back to the 19th century so it is fitting that award winning portrait painter Jennifer Mcrae RSA will deliver a five-day portrait painting masterclass during her residency at Hospitalfield in July. Some surprise - and particularly characterful - models are currently being assembled for this class.
In August, Hospitalfield alumnus and winner of the 2010 Aspect and Threadneedle prizes, Patricia Cain, will join artist Sam Cartman to share advice on working practices, methods and materials. This five-day course gives hands-on practical experience across topics including canvases, pallets, brushes, framing and paper.
The full range of courses – day, weekend, and five day – includes: jazz guitar masterclass, April 14; guitar - blues roots and beyond, July 1; life drawing with Ian Cook, March 16 to 18; jazz voice masterclass, April 13 to 15; monotype printmaking, May 4 to 6; poetry retreat, May 4 to 6; photography, May 11 to 13; Japanese calligraphy, July 20 to 22; landscape design, July 20 to 22; jazz impressions in print, August 17 to 19; portrait painting masterclass, July 16 to 20; life drawing and advanced life drawing, August 6 to 10; and working practices, methods and materials, August 13 to 17.
