Masterchef opens kitchen

TV Masterchef winner,

Jamie Scott, officially opened the brand new kitchen at

St Mary’s Episcopal Church

in Arbroath last Friday

The evening was a great success with all 70 tickets sold.

Mark Masson entertained the guests with an after-dinner talk followed by opera singer Judith Howarth, who sang solos.

She was later joined by Evelyn Fordyce to sing the Flower Duet, accompanied on the piano by Helen Addison they finished off with a Scottish Medley.

St Mary’s was granted £9997 from the Lottery Fund Awards for All to build the new kitchen, they used all local businesses to buy the items required and local tradesmen to do the work. The kitchen will be used and hired out to groups in the community to host cookery classes to support those that are just moving into independent living, single parents or someone recently widowed and for those who want to learn how to cook basic healthy affordable meals.

Classes will be run by volunteers or groups and will reach out to all the community as well as local agencies. St Mary’s is keen to promote local businesses and local produce.

Angus Council Focus Years Fund granted St. Mary’s f 1000 to help towards the final items needed and the opening event. The kitchen and hall will also be available to hire out for events such as Funeral Teas / Weddings / Parties etc. St Mary’s would like to thank the following tradesmen and businesses for all their help and support: Ron Stewart Joinery, DJA Electrical, PH Plumbing, Waltons Catering, The Floor Studio, Colin Smith Electrical Shop and Nisbets Catering.
