Man killed in quarry accident

A FATAL industrial accident took place today (Thursday) near Friockheim.

According to a report from Tayside Police, officers were called to the incident at the David Geddes Quarry outside the village at around 11.30 a.m.

A 25-tonne articulated dumper truck driven by a 76-year-old man was found to have reversed and toppled into the quarry.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics in attendance, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will not be released until he has been formally identified.

As with all industrial accidents The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
