A man appeared in court today (Monday) after Arbroath town centre was put into lockdown during an incident.

Police swooped on Arbroath railway station on Friday night - with specialist officers, dog teams and others being brought in as part of an emergency response.

Local pubs were told to lock their doors to protect their customers while a cordon was thrown up around the town centre.

Kevin Neil Mackay Ross, 43, of Arbroath was later detained in relation with the incident.

Today he appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court facing a single charge of assault with intent to rob.

He made no plea or declaration during a brief hearing in private on petition.

The case was continued for further examination and Ross was remanded in custody ahead of a further appearance next week.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said train services were not affected despite officers swooping at the station.
