A TIPPER bucket was dramatically detached from its truck on Monday afternoon after it struck an Arbroath rail bridge.

The green DAF tipper truck, owned by Norman Jamieson Ltd., was proceeding along Burnside Drive when it struck the low rail bridge at the mini roundabout at Queen’s Drive at around 3.45 p.m.

It is thought the tipper was in an elevated position, which resulted in it striking the bridge as it attempted to pass underneath.

According to Tayside Police the 61-year-old driver suffered minor cuts and bruises to his face and ribs. A spokesperson added: “The collision resulted in the road being closed for a short time, while an investigation at the scene by Network Rail confirmed that any damage to the bridge was superficial.”

At the time of going to press Norman Jamieson Ltd., had not responded to a request for a comment.
