With winter finally descending on our area this morning (Thursday), gale force winds and wet conditions made driving dangerous.

Police Scotland Tayside Division has now issued an advisory notice to motorists to take extra care when driving as a number of main routes and other roads have been affected by windblown debris.

While work is being undertaken to clear those routes affected and it is advised that alternative routes should be taken where possible.

The Tay Road Bridge has a 30mph speed limit and is only open to cars, while the Friarton Bridge at Perth is open to northbound cars and vans with other traffic being diverted through the city.

A number of properties in Angus have had their electricity supplies affected, but the situation is understood to be worse in Perthshire.

For weather and traffic information, members of the public should refer to TV, radio and websites, as well the Met Office alert on its website http://www.metoffice.gov.uk
