Arbroath and Montrose District Scouts have purchased the former glazier’s workshop next to the existing Scout hall in Ponderlaw.
The current first floor hall which has limited space was acquired the 1960s and is regularly used by 2nd Arbroath Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.
The increased space will allow additional members to be accommodated and more activities to be undertaken.
The property purchased is on two floors and the plan is to extend the existing first floor meeting hall and provide additional toilets and improved kitchen facilities on the first floor plus increased equipment storage space on the ground floor.
Funds were available to purchase the property but a sum in excess of £30,000 will be required to carry out the required alterations and a fund-raising campaign is now underway.
A spokesman said: “The vendor of the property, Mr Greg Fleming, has very kindly donated £1,000 towards this campaign, solicitor Marjory McDonald carried out the legal transaction free of charge and a further £500 has been pledged by another local businessman.
“Any individual or business who would like to contribute cash or practical assistance towards the campaign should contact Scout district commissioner, Iain Webster on 01241 872853.”
The cheque for £1,000 was presented recently on behalf of Mr Fleming by Andrew Law, butchery manager and accepted by Pat Elrick.
