AN ARBROATH soldier received a long service and good conduct medal from His Royal Highness, the Duke of Rothesay at a ceremony on Saturday.
Colour Sergeant Gary Buchanan was recognised by Prince Charles at a ceremony in Birkhall after his service with the 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (7 SCOTS).
Colour Sergeant Buchanan has served for 15 years and has been attached to 7 SCOTS from the regular army as a staff instructor.
7 SCOTS is the Territorial Army’s infantry battalion for the north of Scotland and the Highlands.
They send soldiers to Afghanistan on a regular basis as individual reinforcements to Regular Royal Regiment of Scotland Battalions.
And in doing so they bring back valuable operational experience to their units back home in Scotland.
Also receiving medals were members of 7 SCOTS who have recently completed tours of Afghanistan.
