The tradition of braving the bracing north sea water on New Year’s Day in the name of charity is back for another year in Arbroath.

Organisers have announced that the now annual New Year’s Day dook in aid of Cancer Research UK is to take place once again on the first day of 2014.

It will take place beside the Lifeboat Station at 12 noon on January 1 and people are being urged to be early in signing up.

Last year was the biggest dook to date with around 70 people taking to the chilly water to herald in the start of a new year. And organisers are hoping the next event will be just as successful, with over £3,000 being raised last year.

Dookers can register for the event now with entry costing £5 and all participants will receive a Dook T-shirt.

Organiser Alana Loudon said: “We are encouraging dookers to sign up in advance but I will have forms with me on the day.”
