The Arbroath Relay For Life will launch in grand style this weekend with the help of a number of well-known local faces.
World Indoor Bowls champion Darren Burnett will do the honours at Arbroath Golf Club tomorrow (Saturday) before a full house of relay teams, survivors and committee members.
Arbroath magician Michael Brandie and popular band KJB will also entertain. In addition, local artist Brian Petrie will exhibit some of his work to mark the ‘Art For Life’ partnership he has with the committee. He has agreed that all framed prints ordered through the committee and their Facebook page will result in a substantial donation from each sale going into the pot.
Relay Chair, Ian Angus commented: “We are grateful to Brian for playing his part in the great community effort to help beat cancer.”
Mr Angus continued: “With 21 teams registered to date, there is a real buzz of expectation around the launch event.
“The launch night was originally conceived as a way of motivating local people to get involved in this year’s Relay. That has been overtaken by events, with a record number of people and teams registered at this stage. So in a way, the launch night has evolved into an opportunity for us to pay tribute to the amazing community spirit engendered by the many local people and businesses who have already made a massive contribution to this year’s Relay For Life.”
